Here is a cropped down selection from the previous photo. You can see that the camera focused on the beads, not the background. I believe most cameras, like the last digital camera I tried to use for bead shots, will focus on the largest area in the frame of view, which usually is the background. Then the beads will be slightly out of focus, and your photos will look sort of OK, but you will not be able to crop down like this.
Anyway, I am a rank amateur at this so I needed something extreme bonehead to work with, and I believe I found it.
